All sessions will be held in SE Calgary school gyms; exact locations will be confirmed.

Divisions

  • Jr Tykes: Athletes age 6

  • Sr Tykes: Athletes aged 7 and 8 with some basketball experience

Practices & Games

Each session is 50 minutes and includes both skill development and gameplay.

Our U9 curriculum emphasizes foundational skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and confidence. The Basketball Alberta 3X3 format supports increased ball touches, improved decision‑making, and a more enjoyable learning environment.

Scrimmages

Scrimmages are structured to be fun, instructional, and development‑focused.

  • Teams consist of 4–6 players to optimize the 3X3 format.

  • All games are played half‑court.

  • Coaches and assistants will officiate while actively teaching rules and concepts.

  • In the Sr Tykes division, coaches are encouraged to call infractions (e.g., traveling, double dribbling) to reinforce proper technique and understanding.

  • Explanations of calls are part of the learning process and help athletes grow their game IQ.
