THE LEGACY OF “WHY NOT”

This season every Bobcats Athlete will wear two simple words on the back of their T-Shirts.

“WHY NOT”

These words are more than a slogan. They are a tribute to our friend, coach, volunteer, mentor and champion of youth sports, Greg Fagnan, who we tragically lost this summer.

Greg believed that basketball was about much more than wins and losses. He believed in the development of young people. He challenged athletes to be curious, to work hard, to support each other and to never stop growing.

Whenever someone wondered if something was possible Greg’s response was often simple,

“Why Not”

Why not try taking the shot?

Why not try a new skill?

Why not try working a little harder?

Why not be an encouraging teammate?

Why not become the best version of yourself?

Why not Us?

Those two words remind us that growth begins when we’re willing to step outside our comfort zones.  They encourage athletes to embrace challenges instead of avoiding them, to see mistakes as opportunities to learn and to believe that improvement is always possible.

As an organization, we want to carry the legacy and mindset forward.

Every time a Bobcat athlete pulls on their shirt, we hope they will remember that “Why Not” is an invitation to be brave, to be resilient, to be coachable, and to keep striving for something greater.

Greg’s impact on the basketball community reached far beyond the court.  He invested his time, energy, and heart into creating the best possible experience for young athletes because he believed every child deserved the opportunity to grow through sport.  That legacy will continue in every practice, every game and every athlete who chooses to ask themselves one question: Why Not?

Thank you, Greg, for showing and reminding us that growth starts with believing something is possible.  Your Legacy lives on.
